The Thai Language Program, Faculty of Education, Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, conducted a folklore field study in the Talat Phlu community—the first in a series of initiatives designed to enhance the professional competencies of future Thai language teachers.

As part of a project to develop academic potential and international perspectives, the Thai Language Program organized a field study on "Folklore" for third-year students on October 6, 2026, in the Talat Phlu community, Thon Buri District, Bangkok. This activity was integrated into the "Folklore" course curriculum.

The field study provided students with hands-on, real-world experience. By visiting key landmarks within the Talat Phlu community, students explored the local way of life, beliefs, and narratives. They also gained insight into the area’s unique multicultural fabric—a place where diverse religious and ethnic groups, including Thai Buddhists, Muslims, Christians, and Thai-Chinese, have long coexisted in peace and harmony.

The field study was made possible through the generous support of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Apiluck Kasempholkoon from the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Mahidol University—lead researcher of the "Talat Phlu Du Phloen" (Enjoyable Talat Phlu) project—along with community leaders from the "Talat Phlu Du Di" (Wonderful Talat Phlu) group, represented by Khun Somporn Temipatthanapongsa and Khun Orapin Wilaichit. These experts served as guides, sharing their extensive knowledge regarding the community’s history, folklore, and local wisdom with the students. This project represents a significant step toward fostering experiential learning, empowering prospective Thai language teachers by deepening their understanding of folklore and cultural diversity, and preparing them to apply this knowledge effectively in their future professional teaching practice.
